About JavaScript-MazeExplorer:
This game was introduced as a demo-page for an advanced employment of image and layer animation for JavaScript 1.2 (Navigator 4.0 and compatible) in 1997. It has been updated for "modern" browsers (MSIE 4+, DOM-compatibles) in 2004. This page doesn't require any plug-ins or other extensions!
Sounds: If Adobe Flash-Player 9.0 or higher is detected, an additional Flash-movie is used to provide the sounds. Flash is not used for any other purpose – the game works just the same without the Flash plug-in.
The Story:
Explore the mazes and collect as many boxes as possible. Your "Acme-Mazer Ltd. MazeExplorer Mk I" is equiped with a cannon specially developed to provide extra performance in mazes. It will be auto-deactivated for very short distances to protect you from the murderous blast reflected from the passages. But be aware of some limitations: There is only one shot a time and as luck will have it, you've forgotten to bring the ammunition. Collect up to a maximum of 8 bullets to help yourself against the maze's unfriendly inhabitents. (Any ammunition will be lost with a breaking ship.)
Menagerie:
|
The "Acme-Mazer Ltd. MazeExplorer Mk I" take care of it.
|
|
Some enigmatic goods collect them to get further.
|
|
This little monster may seem cute to you, but it has some uneasy attitudes.
|
|
Bullet collect it, you may need it. Stored ammunition is displayed at the lower left of the maze.
|
How to Move keyboard control:
Use the cursor keys or numeric keypad to navigate the ship. (Mouse-control is still active.)
Special keys: |
"Space", "0" or "Return"; | ... | Fire |
"N" | ... | New game |
"P" or "ESC" | ... | Pause (will be indicated by a "P" in the level display) |
(Netscape 4 users will have to click anywhere in the window first, to give keyboard focus to it!)
For the comfort of notebook users an alternate set of configurable keys is availble:
default: i (up)
(left) j k l (right)
(down)
How to Move mouse control:
The general concept: Center the mouse pointer over the controller at the lower right side of the game area and move the mouse in the direction you want your ship to move.
Move the mouse onto the arrows to direct the ship through the maze. To repeat a command (p.e. to start a new level) center the pointer in the middle and reenter the arrow's area.
Click to fire.
Pausing:
Click the ball in the middle of the controller to pause the game. A "P" in the level field will indicate that the game is currently paused.
Click again to continue.
Animation Smoothness:
In case you are using a fast computer (800 MHz+), increase the smoothness settings for better animation quality. The initial setting is quite low to conform to slower hadware.
Speed Settings:
The actual animation speed results from the combination of speed and smoothness and the limitations of the hardware used. If the animations turns "jaggy" reduce smoothness to optimize your top speed.
